Lake Lanier is a beautiful 56,000 acre lake nestled in foothills of
the north Georgia mountains. It enjoys 7.5 million visitors a
year, has over 690 miles of shoreline, and is known as one of the
best lakes in the country for recreation, fishing, boating, and
lake-living! Dedicated in 1957, the purpose of the lake was to
benefit of the public by providing electric power, water, flood
protection, navigation and recreation to millions of users, as well
as a sanctuary for animals and plants. It is a short drive to
the excitement of Atlanta, but lake residents still enjoys the calm
and peaceful nature of north Georgia. Many of those living on
the lake get to enjoy the sunrise over the mountains, commute into
Atlanta to work for the day, then make it home in time to see the
sunset on the glittering lake. Because it is managed by the
Army Corps of Engineers, there are building and dock regulations
that ensure the long-term beauty and well-being of the lake and its
communities. Add to that the warm and friendly people who
exude southern hospitality, and you'll agree that Lake Lanier is a
GREAT place to live!
